Markets end flat

The Sensex ended at 16,330, higher by 40 points, and the Nifty closed at 4,876, up 22 points (provisional closing). - Markets remain flat - Markets pare gains on spike in inflation - Markets extend gains - BoB surges 5% on Q3 net jump - SAIL up as Q3 net doubles - Sensex off day"s high in early trades -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(Updated at 15pm) The Sensex is now down 15 points at 16,276, while the Nifty is up 6 points at 4,859. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(Updated at 1440pm) The markets have spurted in the last few minutes, mainly on account of short-covering in select index heavyweights owing to the derivatives expiry today. The cues from the European markets are also positive. The Sensex is now up 120 points at 16,420. The Nifty is up 50 points at 4,903. Sun Pharma and DLF have surged 3.5% each to Rs 1,467 and Rs 328, respectively. Tata Steel too has soared over 3% to Rs 577. HDFC has moved up 2.7% to Rs 2,370. Wipro has rallied over 2% to Rs 669, and Mahindra & Mahindra has advanced nearly 2% to Rs 1,031. Grasim, SBI, Reliance, NTPC and Maruti are the other prominent gainers. Larsen & Toubro and Bharti Airtel, however, are down around 2% each at Rs 1,430 and Rs 316, respectively. Hindustan Unilever and Jaiprakash Associates are down 1% each.
